Marc Schneider, Clinician, Pediatric Specialist

Bachelor of Physical Education, University of Alberta

Marc has specialized in pediatrics since 1989 when he joined the Alberta Children’s Hospital, practicing there until 1996 when he established the Braceworks clinic. He thrives on the clinical challenge of treating highly dynamic needs of children with chronic conditions like Cerebral Palsy, as they grow from childhood through their transition from youth into adulthood – helping them maintain active and independent lives.

His other areas of expertise is custom knee bracing, having personal experience with the entire progression from stabilizing knee braces for ligament injury at age 19 to unloading knee braces for osteoarthritis and a total knee replacement at age 48.

In addition to his absorbing clinical practice, Marc is actively involved in applied research on assistive devices through collaboration with the Centre for Bioengineering Research and Education at the University of Calgary. Marc mentors graduate students for the Biomedical Engineers for the 21st Century Award in entrepreneurial leadership. This NSERC Create training programme fosters biomedical engineers with diverse backgrounds. Student researchers gain important clinical experience and some insight into the opportunities for advancing orthotic care and improving mobility for people with disabilities.

Marc graduated from the University of Alberta in 1985 with a Bachelor of Physical Education – Athletic Training and Conditioning, practicing as an Athletic Trainer for the Edmonton Wildcats Football Club and Canadian Forces Base Edmonton during his studies. Following his degree, he studied Prosthetics and Orthotics in Burnaby, British Columbia graduating in 1988.

Marc maintains his professional education through memberships in the International Society of Prosthetists and Orthotists, the American Association of Orthotists and Prosthetists, and the Association of Children’s Prosthetic and Orthotic Clinics.
