Pediatric Rehabilitation and Education Program, Alberta Children’s Hospital
The Pediatric Rehabilitation and Education Program provides rehabilitation services for school-aged children who have had a recent significant change in their physical functioning due to an injury, illness or surgery, and requires intensive rehabilitation to return to their community school.

The program:
- assists the child’s transition back into the community and community school
- includes on-site classrooms to allow children to continue with their education, as part of their rehabilitation process
- has a strong parent education focus
- involves parents in planning their child’s treatment
This program also can include consultation with orthotics service and seating service, if appropriate.

Hours of Operation Monday to Friday 8:00 am – 4:00 pm Service Providers May Include doctors, licensed practical nurse (LPN), occupational therapists (OTs), physical therapists (PTs), psychologist, recreation child life therapist, registered nurses (RN), social workers, speech-language pathologist (SLP), teachers Eligibility School-aged children aged 5-17 requiring intensive rehabilitation after a recent change in physical functioning due to injury, illness or surgery. Service Access Healthcare providers should consult the Alberta Referral Directory for service referral information. Wait Times An estimated wait time will be provided upon receipt and triage of the referral. The Pediatric Rehabilitation and Education Program follows the Calgary Board of Education Modified Calendar (typically mid August to end of June with various breaks in the school year) Fees School Service: bussing may be possible to and from school Service Languages Interpreter/Translation services |
